Yup, you read that right. You may be able to “adopt” a computer…for free! Find out how.
Compudopt has a computer drive-thru for community members who need a laptop. To qualify, you must be a student in Chicagoland or Northern Illinois (kindergarten through college,) and not own a working computer at home.
Visit the Compudopt website to learn more about their lottery system OR go directly to complete their lottery form for CPS graduates.
Filling out the form does not guarantee you a computer. However it does enter you into a first come, first serve lottery, so the earlier you apply, the better your chances.
The form will ask:
Names will be chosen randomly 3-days prior to distribution dates. Selected recipients will be notified by text message to complete the RSVP process to pick up their computer at a distribution site.
It is very important to include your cell phone number. If you are chosen at random, communication regarding picking up your computer will come through Compudopt via text messaging services.
PCs for People is all about getting low-cost computers to those who need them.
