Successful people have a large network of contacts they trust and lean on for help, such as business connections, financial advisors, life coaches, professional mentors, former teachers, accomplished family members and reliable friends.

Get your Mentor

Having regular check-in conversations with a mentor coach substantially improves a young person’s chances of graduating with a college degree. Check out these great FREE programs to find a mentor to help you on your journey! 

 

  • Slalom – Register today for a complimentary virtual professional coaching session on January 16th, 2023!
  • Chicago Scholars Peer Mentoring supports first year college students as they transition to life on campus. Through partnerships with Scholars from other class years, the program helps Scholars cultivate leadership opportunities, develop community and support networks, and share knowledge.
  • UStrive – This organization lets any high school or college student to sign up to get a free mentor.
  • CollegePoint offers free virtual advising to help students from low- and moderate-income families apply to, enroll in, and graduate from top colleges.
  • The Mentor Portal – Get a free 20-min session w/a peer mentor from a specific college.
  • ISACorps Mentor – The Illinois Student Assistance Corps is a talented group of recent college graduates who are trained to serve as near peer mentors to high school students. Search for your ISACorps Mentor by zip code.

 

Find a Tutor

College classes are hard, real talk, and that doesn’t mean it’s not meant for you or that you’re not ready, it just means it’s a smart idea to get help. First, check for free tutoring services offered on your campus, but if you need additional help, consider:

 

  • Schoolhouse World – Get free peer-to-peer academic tutoring! 
  • ChiTown Tutoring – A private organization which charges a fee for service, but they have a great track record of helping low income, minority and first generation students learn difficult concepts and improve their grades.
  • Learn To Be – Get free one-on-one academic tutoring on a weekly basis! You are also able to become a tutor as well!
